☆REVIEW + TRY-ON☆ Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation in 100

….I’m just going to call this product the ‘Fenty Beauty Foundation’ from here on out, because I kind of hate when brands come out with absurdly long names like this that I’m sure not even Rihanna herself would be able to remember when she needs to hahah

I first swatched this shade when I dropped by my local sephora for a job interview a few days ago, and my heart nearly skipped a beat when it blended in effortlessly with my skintone– WITHOUT a white-pigmented mixer added in. I ordered it almost immediately when I got home that night, and it arrived just yesterday.

Guys. I am convinced that this stuff is liquid magic. It is an intentionally all-inclusive line that has a bottle for every shade and undertone, from the oft-ignored dark skinned, ebony queens, to the nearly-transparent, literally-sickly ghostly fair, like myself. After having used it twice now, I feel ready (and downright excited) to review it, and share my new infatuation with Fenty Beauty with you all.

Join me below the cut as I share my admiration for Rihanna, her all-inclusive vision, and this downright amazing foundation!!

[packaging: ★★★★★]

Let me first admit that I am a sucker for sleek, frosted glass packaging. This hits all the right notes with me, aesthetically, but is also functional– the pump works well, and dispenses a nice amount of product each time without getting stuck or being too light or hard to push, so far as I’m aware yet. Also, it’s transparent enough to be able to tell when it’s time to consider restocking! Highly impressive packaging for a bottle that only cost $34, in my personal opinion.

holy geez, guys, this texture is heckin swell. like, really and truly something else. One of my absolute least favorite things about wearing foundation in general is when it feels heavy on my face, or the greasy/thick feeling + color transfer onto my fingers when I touch my face throughout the day. This foundation manages to somehow be both buildable to a full coverage– but at the same time, even when you wear it full coverage, it dries down and ‘melts into your skin’, so it feels soft, velvety, and almost not even there if you were to touch your face while wearing it. I swear to whatever higher power that you may believe in, I am so seriously blown away by this.

scent3
[scent: ★★★☆☆]

I’m not personally a fan of sweet fragrances like vanilla, so the perfume of this foundation isn’t exactly to my taste– which is unfortunate, because it really seems to last for a while after application. However, it isn’t highly off-putting or BAD, really, and the fragrance itself is rather subtle– to the point where I just notice a whiff of it now and then and think, ‘oh, that smells rather sweet’, not necessarily ‘dear god this is awful, I can’t believe I’m putting up with this’.
So, I’d recommend trying on this product before making the full purchase if you’re someone who is sensitive to fragrance, but it may not be heavy enough to bother a lot of you, so it’s still damn well worth a try imo.

Let’s see for ourselves! I did step-by-step photos of basic face makeup (though again, my hair– which I’ve neglected to cut too long, is an absolute wreck, so sorry for that!!), so let’s see how it looks when on, starting with one of my biggest insecurities/fears: a completely  unedited, high-res bareface close-up photo! (pls be kind eheheh ; v ; )

I honestly had to work up a LOT of courage to post this unedited pic during such a bad breakout. had to admit it.

NEXT STEP: VDL Color Correcting Primer Mint

NEXT STEP: Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Light 1 + Marc Jacobs Concealer Brush

NEXT STEP: Fenty Foundation!!

All finished!!

I can’t believe it’s  not butter unretouched or edited!!

Honestly, the best way I can think to sum this product up is: wow. Just wow. A foundation light enough for me, that I also don’t slightly loathe using (here’s looking at you, KVD 41)– rather, it’s also one of the best foundations I’ve ever had the pleasure of using in terms of texture, buildability of coverage, lightweight feeling on the skin, etc. This is just awesome, and with Rihanna’s name attached, she could have easily chosen to sell this for $50+. But no, I forgot to mention– this product is a mere $34– practically pocket change when it comes to high-end makeup!
This is my new go-to foundation, which I can see as a gateway to wearing foundation more often, now that my skin has been looking horrible, I no longer need the extra time or effort to mix in white pigment, and it feels so lightweight that if I go light coverage, I may not even be bothered at all that I’m wearing it!

Which leads me to:

repurchaseyes

[repurchase: 100% repurchase. recommend to every stranger I meet.  commission a formal painting of product to hang in my foyer. cuddle the bottle to sleep each night. this product is a WIN imo.]

WHERE TO BUY:
Sephora — $34 + shipping!!

I had actually read many years ago (in some trashy grocery store magazine like US Weekly or In Touch) that Rihanna was severely bullied growing up in the Caribnean (Barbados, I believe?) for the color of her skin (she’s part white, and therefore wasn’t ‘dark enough’ to be pretty there), and has been passionate about showing the beauty in all skin tones ever since– so I wasn’t surprised to see her quoted as saying,

“I wanted to make sure that women of all skin tones were covered so they could be included in what I created.”  –Rihanna, founder of Fenty Beauty

when asked why her makeup line has such a wide range. She really did nail it though, imo, because inclusivity doesn’t just mean adding more to the range of shades that women of color DO desperately need options for out there– true inclusivity includes everyone, from ebony queens, to the nearly-transparent, porcelain fair, like myself– and Rihanna + the makeup artists behind this line really GOT that.

I think RiRi and everyone else behind this line really succeeded in their goal of catering to a gloriously broad variety of shades and undertones, and for that I give her a round of applause. a standing ovation. (get it? sorry)

soooo, just so you’re all aware, I am now a proud, die-hard Fenty Beauty fan until stated otherwise.

And on that note, I bid you all adieu for now~

XOXO,

–NIKO
